Monitoring the Regional Implementation Strategy

Since 2002, the European Centre has been mandated to undertake follow-up activities to the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) and the Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS). The Austrian Government, through its Ministry of Social Affairs and Consumer Protection and its Ministry for Foreign Affairs, provided the funding of this work. The European Centre Vienna established a separate Mainstreaming Ageing: Indicators to Monitor Implementation (MA:IMI) unit within the Centre.

The MA:IMI unit, in collaboration with the UNECE Secretariat and its Population Ageing unit (UNECE / PAU), promoted an exchange of experiences in the field of policies related to ageing, undertook networking and dissemination activities, and carried out data collection, research and analyses in co-operation with international agencies (such as the World Bank, ILO, ISSA, EUROSTAT, OECD) and national authorities, NGOs and other concerned bodies.

A report provides a short overview of all work undertaken by the MA:IMI unit during its first phase, which coincided with the First Review and Appraisal Cycle (2003-2008) of the MIPAA and the RIS. The report provides a list of conferences, workshops, expert and Task Force meetings, and it presents the list of indicators prepared as well as their graphical illustrations. The report also gives an overview of the dissemination work undertaken within the MA:IMI unit and the development of the Monitoring RIS website.

If you would like to obtain a free copy of the report, kindly contact Annette Hexelschneider at [email protected], stating your name and the name of your institution or organization.
